Mary Liew, NTUC President & SMOU General Secretary

Dear Brother Kam, Brother Daniel, Brother Abdul Rahim, and the Executive Committee and staff of SOS,

My heartiest congratulations to SOS for your momentous Golden Anniversary of half a century. This milestone marks the many years of remarkable accomplishments that your union has achieved.

As NTUC President, I am glad that the union continues to support the work of NTUC and works closely with us to better the lives of our union members. 2020 has been a challenging year as the world battles the COVID-19 pandemic. Going forward, our workers remain concerned with their livelihoods. As Singapore’s economy recovers, we must work together to harness opportunities that might come our way. I’m confident that our unions will continue to fight and preserve the interests of workers as #everyworkermatters.

In particular, SMOU is privileged to be able to work closely with SOS to forge ahead and further the interests of seafarers and members in the maritime industry. In addressing the crew change crisis and issues brought about by the pandemic, SOS has truly displayed its strength by partnering with SMOU and tripartite partners to overcome national and regional hurdles. May we persevere in standing together to appreciate our seafarers, the key workers who have kept the global supply chain moving even during this challenging time.

We look forward to many more great years of friendship and comradeship, not just with SMOU but with the entire Labour Movement family too!
